A Psalm written by Dr Frank Barry Smith OBE and read at his funeral in 2005.

The heavens speak of your majesty and power
From the greatest galaxy to the smallest string of matter
We stand in awe of you

We marvel at our Universe’s creation at the beginning of time
From nothing to an inferno of generation and destruction
We stand in awe of you

For billions of years matter coalesced, created stars of great lights.
New elements were made, stars died and scattered their treasures into space
We stand in awe of you

Then, in time, came our sun and its mighty planets
Formed from the treasures of old exploded stars.
We stand in awe of you

Then you created life on our blessed planet Earth
Simple at first, then more and more complex
We stand in awe of you

Man evolved and stood above the other creatures
Able to speak, to learn, to love and to do conscious evil
We stand in awe of you

Then, O God, you in your eternal love revealed yourself
First to the Jews and then to all peoples
We stand in awe of you

Through your Son, Jesus Christ, you brought us salvation
And died on the cross to redeem us all
We stand in awe of you

Alleluia
