
Scout Hut Maintenance Lead
Overview
Our scout hut is a fabulous asset and means that the group has a permanent base for all our great activities – however, the hut also gets a lot of hard use and needs regular maintenance to keep it in good shape. As such, the maintenance lead is responsible for ensuring that the hut will remain safe and functional for many years to come.
Key Responsibilities
Maintaining the safety and functionality of 2nd Bracknell Scout hut and grounds by making sure that any required work is planned and carried out – not necessarily carrying out the work yourself.
Typical work that needs to be managed will include:
- Routine maintenance e.g. replacing light bulbs, minor repairs to cupboards/doors, upkeep of the grounds
- Regular & periodic testing, ensuring compliance with regulations – e.g. annual PAT, fire extinguishers
- Improvements & major projects e.g. toilet upgrade, repainting of fixtures
- Organising working parties to help with upkeep
Skills and Qualities Required
- General maintenance skills and a practical attitude.
- Attention to detail.
- Organisation and co-ordination ability to plan required work, taking into account hut usage.
- Good communication skills with the ability to talk to volunteers and service providers.
- Effective collaboration, creativity, and leadership abilities are valued.
- Awareness of health and safety.
Commitment and Meetings
The Maintenance lead usually joins the Trustee Board to bring awareness of progress, plans and resource requests to the Board. The Board meets every 3 months on average, usually on a Tuesday evening at The Hut. Trustees are accountable to the Chair of the Trustee Board. Other communication options can be arranged with the Chair.
Appointment Requirements
- Successful completion of the appointment process includes DBS clearance and agreement with The Scout Association’s policies.
- Completion of relevant Scout training modules including ongoing safeguarding and safety training.
- Be over 18 years of age.
