Parent & Child Camp 2014

All ready for the fancy dress parade in their "Australian" themed outfits

All ready for the fancy dress parade in their “Australian” themed outfits.

48 Beavers, Cubs, Explorers and their parents attended the “South and South East Berkshire District Parent & Child” camp at Earleywood on 26th to 28th September 2014. Along with 340 campers, we participated in “Australian” themed challenges and games, competing for the prestigious Trading Post trophy. Despite giving it our best shot we were unable to retain the trophy and came in second, a valiant effort by all our campers.

One of the challenges was to write an Aussie poem and Libby Hall stepped forward and spent many a dedicated hour pulling it together. The poem sums up the weekend beautifully and we thought you would all like to read it for yourselves:

G’day we’re 2nd Bracknell and it’s beaut to be here
It’s so fun at Earleywood, we come every year
The tents went up in no time and round the fire we sat,
Enjoying bonzer tucker and animated chat.

On Saturday we paraded in our finest Aussie clothes;
Kangaroos and crocodiles struck a handsome pose
With challenges laid down and lively games to be played;
The judges have a hard task, we hope they can be swayed.

Our Bondi Beach is awesome, made for a real surf dude
Our chefs surpassed themselves with fair dinkum barbie food
To the Campfire off we go, for ripper skits and songs
Now we’re hungry for some S’mores, we hope they won’t be long.

Our Dreamtime by the fire is nearly over now
It’s time to put on a show and take our final bow
But strewth, our Leader, Condor is nowhere to be seen,
No worries, he’s gone walkabout until 2015!

Well done to everyone who came along, I am looking forward to the 2015 camp already
