Jungle camp at Stedham

Stedham is one of our favourite camp sites and we were delighted to return there in July with our friends from 2nd Bracknell.

We had wonderful weather for our weekend camp and managed to combine our normal camp activities with some jungle crafts and a taste of the exotic fruit. For added entertainment we were able to watch the Red Arrows and Vulcan as they displayed for the Festival of Speed at Goodwood.

You’ll find more in our Jungle camp gallery with pictures taken by Akela.

If you subscribe to our Twitter updates (@ParbrookCubs) or checked the home page of the website for our Twitter feed then you will have seen our Twitpics from camp:

Tom Agar

We are sorry to report that Tom Agar, a former Cub and helper (Hathi) in the group lost his battle with cancer and died on 14 November 2010, aged 26. Like so many, he worked his way through the sections and having left Ventures, became a helper with Cubs. He was diagnosed in 2008 but managed to visit us at our 50th anniversary camp in summer 2010. Our thoughts are with his parents, Ann and Richard who have also been long-time supporters of 2nd Bracknell and of course his brother Andrew who was also a 2nd Bracknell member.

If you were a Cub in 2nd Bracknell we’d be delighted to hear from you and find out what you are doing now.

Tom received excellent care from Thames Hospicecare and his family are now supporting them by organising some fund raising events. We hope that you will support them too.

Explorer Project Africa Fundraiser

Eight Explorers from 2nd Bracknell will be going to Uganda for 3-6 weeks in Summer 2011. This is a Berkshire Scouts initiative and the group will undertake a number of community projects while they are there. They have to raise a significant amount of money, not only to support themselves but also to raise money for the projects. This is just one of their fund-raising activities – a static cycle ride from Entebbe to Mityana then Jinja and finally ontoo Mbale – a total distance of 240 miles!

You can see some photos of the fundraiser here.

St George’s Day Game

London Wasps introduced their St George’s Day game in 2010 and recognising that it is an important day for Scouts, asked them to take part too. We got to parade around the Twickenham pitch and reaffirm our Promises in the stadium. Then we settled down to watch the match

Explorers Central Massif

On 14th August 2010, up to one hundred Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members from across berkshire, set off for two weeks of adventure in France, including a contingent from 2nd Bracknell.

The base camp was in Millau, where everybody had the opportunity to take part in some first class activities and complete the Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions.

These are just some of the photos!
